About Henri Gaobi
Henri Gaobi is a celebrated drummer and musical director, renowned for his dedication to the traditional music and dance of the Gouro community of the Ivory Coast. Leading the collective Kaagô, Gaobi brings together a team of experienced artists to deliver rich and authentic performances. These shows are a captivating blend of singing, percussion, stilt-walking, acrobatics, and traditional village mask dances, guaranteed to leave audiences mesmerised.
Kaagô: A Journey of Cultural Excellence
Kaagô was founded in the UK in 1992 by Henri Gaobi and Rose Zan Lou, the first zaouli dancer in the UK until her retirement. The group made an impressive debut at WOMAD that same year and has continued to perform internationally. The collective has produced several CDs of traditional Ivorian music and collaborated with various artists across genres.
A Master Drummer with Global Appeal
Henri Gaobi is regarded as one of the finest traditional djembe players in Britain. His expertise allows him to keep the rhythms of the Ivory Coast alive through breathtaking contemporary performances and inspirational drum workshops. Gaobi's extensive performance history includes appearances on Ivorian TV from a young age, and he has recorded with artists such as Reine Pelagie, Turin Brakes, and the Earth Orchestra.
